Players of the Week: Spencer Moon '13 and Emily Vitale '12
By Morgan Toy '11, Sports Editor
Some might be intimidated in their first game for a NESCAC-champion team, but not first-year forward Spencer Noon. Noon has already begun to establish a name for himself with his performance in Jeffs’ defeat of Bowdoin Saturday. Noon scored his first and second collegiate goals in the 67th and 83rd minute, the only goals of the game. In addition, Noon singlehandedly outscored all NESCAC teams in a weekend in which no team netted more than a single tally.

Noon now has one more prize to add to his fast-growing list of achievements: NESCAC Player of the Week. With a strong early start, Noon is definitely a player to watch.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Vitale showed exactly why she was last year’s NESCAC rookie of the year when she blanked the two-time national champion Bowdoin Polar Bears to hand them only their third loss in three seasons.

Despite the 11-5 advantage the Polar Bears had in shots, Vitale and the Jeffs defense held strong. Vitale would end the game with six saves, five coming in the first half.

As a first-year goalkeeper, Vitale ranked third in save percentage and fourth in shutouts in the NESCAC last year. With this weekend’s performance, Vitale looks ready to uphold and even surpass her already noteworthy rookie season.
