Players of the Week: Sophie Galleher '10 and Liz Monty '13
By Briana Hanny '13, Sports Editor
Senior tri-captain Sophie Galleher pulled through as the only Amherst runner to place in the top 20 at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst Invitational on Saturday. Galleher placed ninth in a field of 83 runners with a time of 18:03 for the 5-kilometer race.

Galleher streamed past many of her Div. I competitors and came through; essentially, helping to bring the team to a fourth place standing in the meet. Galleher is a fierce competitor and continues to post impressive times, finishing first for the Jeffs in both meets this season. She was also named the NESCAC Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week.

Liz Monty ’13 made a striking collegiate debut in the opening of the Amherst women’s golf season at the Dartmouth Invitational. This feat was due to a great performance on Sunday by Monty, who posted a score of 75 on Sunday. Monty stood out in the entire tournament, placing herself in close standing with the top Div. I golfers in the tournament.

Monty definitely pulled her weight to help bring up the Jeffs’ ranking at the Dartmouth Invitational, as the top scorer on the Amherst women’s golf team.
